The coaches use this information to try to match up all the kids with similar skills so it is a really fun and enjoyable time. The also do that so they are teaching basics to the kids that need it, and more advanced stuff to the kids that already have some skills.

Late night photo shoot

My friend Clay’s dad grows all kinds of plants and flowers that he sells to local shops. He is trying to get a website set up to sell some of his goods, so he asked me to shoot some photos for him.

As you can see, I am shooting tethered; which really helped a LOT. I also am using my homemade stick-in-a-cans for lightstands. I ended up using a couple 100W bulbs and some lamo Meijer bags to use as softbox/diffusion material. I also bought this big piece of white fleece material for backdrop, and it worked great.

Oh, and don’t forget to use a custom white balance. That was the key in these shots to get the proper whites; especially considering the low powered lights I was using.

Another flickr photo “published”

Every now and then, I get a contact from someone asking if they can use one of my flickr photos for some project they are working on.  Usually I tell them yes, but it is not very often that I hear back from them and they send me a link showing me my photo in use.  Well, today I got an email about one of my flickr photos being used for some mapping website for Detroit, Michigan.  They are using one of my photos that I took at Ford Field for the Detroit Lions home opener last season.  The photo isn’t all that special, but it is kinda cool seeing your stuff “published”.

Anyway, here is a link to their site.  Look for the text “Ford Field” on the page.  When you hover your mouse over it, my photo will come up.

Tethered photography with the Rebel XTI

Test blog from word2007.

This is a photo that I took while I was doing some tethered shooting with my Rebel XTI. It’s pretty cool what you can do with the canon control software. You can control all of the camera functions remotely, thru the computer; as well as set up an interval timer. The interval timer is handy for taking a single photo every minute for 1 hour, as an example.

You also have the added option of capturing the images directly to the computer, rather than writing to the memory card and moving the files later. I could see this being real handy for the photo booth that we did this last year for the kids at Larry’s Drive In (youth group fund raiser)

Day 2: Alphabet train

I’m sitting in our basement watching football, and just decided to go ahead with project 366 for 2008; so I needed a photo to use for today! Well, our basement also just happens to be our kids playroom, so this is what I found to shoot for today. Hopefully tomorrows pic will be a little more significant…
